Competing Risks Analysis
Florence, 18 June - 21 June 2012

Per Kragh Andersen and Lene Theil Skovgaard
University of Copenaghen, Denmark

"Competing risks" is the name for the situation where "one of out several types of failure" may terminate follow-up of an individual. This is a very common situation in epidemiology where studies often focus on disease occurrence but where cohort members may die from other causes without getting the disease.

The course will focus on analysis of follow-up data with competing risks. Analysis of rates and risks of each type of failure will be discussed and illustrated with a number of examples. Hands-on practicals using the R software are included and an introduction to R will be given.
